It’s a beautiful thing to be able to celebrate the joy that comes with a new baby after suffering a heartbreaking loss. Natalie & her family came to me to schedule a session to do exactly that! I had the privilege of photographing Natalie’s rainbow baby maternity session with her family here in Bodega Bay, California.
If you’re not familiar with the term rainbow baby, it’s a baby born after a loss such as a miscarriage, stillbirth, or child loss. Natalie, Bo, and little Torbjorn were celebrating Natalie’s pregnancy with their own rainbow baby during this maternity session. To say it was heartwarming is an understatement.
Bodega Bay Maternity Session
Natalie is an amazing mother and human. While she displays so much strength with all she and Bo have been through, she’s also very tender and present with Torbjorn and so excited about their newest addition! Throughout the session, she was incredibly open and free-spirited which made for some incredible shots to commemorate this special occasion for their family!
They wanted to be sure to include all members of their clan, including the child they lost. It was so meaningful to see this wonderful family pay homage to their little one while celebrating this pregnancy. Torbjorn is such a loving and happy kid, and it was so sweet to get to see him look back at photos with mom and dad. So many emotions!
Maternity Wardrobe
The seaside setting was perfect for this free spirited mama-to-be. I love the way the waves are splashing against the shore in the background as she lovingly displays her adorable baby bump in her flowy dress! And how gorgeous is that blue maternity gown? That particular gown is the Impact Dress by Joyfolie, and it’s available as part of my client closet. It’s flattering for all stages of pregnancy and adds a hint of glamor (and great movement with the fabric!) to any session! Above all, my favorite accessory from this session was little Torbjorn’s arms around mama’s neck. The love between this family radiated throughout the day.
Natalie was positively glowing and Bo’s excitement is so evident in every photo! This family was such a dream. While every maternity session is beautiful, this one holds a special place in my heart. The rainbow after the storm of grief and loss is beautiful in so many ways. It was a true honor to be chosen to capture this season of life for such a kind, deserving family. Natalie & Bo, thank you for trusting me with such important photos and congratulations on your newest addition. I wish you all the happiness in the world!
