One of the most rewarding parts of family photography is getting to build relationships with returning clients and their growing families. I’ve had the pleasure of photographing Kate’s family more than once, but this time was extra sentimental because Kate’s mother came in from Ukraine and joined them!
Kate and Kevin are so loving with their children, Yeva, Leo, & baby Mila, and I always look forward to seeing their wardrobe for the sessions. Make no mistake, I appreciate a carefully styled session and great neutrals. Kate has a great eye and unique style that takes those neutrals to a whole new level and the aesthetic was perfect for our park setting.
We spent the afternoon at a local Petaluma park, and this crew needed very little guidance. Kate is such a natural in front of the camera and her family is no exception. Just take a look at little Leo’s dimples or Mila’s sweet gummy grin and you’ll see what I mean! There is so much love between these six, and it’s undeniable when you see the photos. They lit up at big sister, Yeva, and couldn’t get enough of dad, Kevin. Kate is such a phenomenal mother and it shows in the family she & Kevin have created.
Adding Kate’s mother to the mix, especially given the headlines surrounding Ukraine, added an extra layer of tenderness to an already affectionate atmosphere. There is nothing more precious in life than the relationship between parents and children. It was enormously rewarding to be able to capture these moments for them at such a scenic location.
Anyone who is a parent or a parent-figure can tell you how quickly these moments slip through your fingers. Sooner than you’d like, photos and memories are all that remain of the small, dimpled hands of your infants or the silly faces you once made to earn a giggle from your toddler. For that reason, I always encourage families to seize every opportunity to have family photos taken. What a gift it is to be able to look back at these days!
