This was the fourth time I've photographed for this mama, and I was SO looking forward to this session. She's amazing, and her girls are just the sweetest. It's been so amazing to see the girls and to see how much they grow throughout the years.
This session was extra special because I worked closely with Kara on styling and location. We photographed at a really gorgeous location in south Petaluma, and I'm so in love with this spot. Not too many people know of it, so sessions here feel intimate. Getting those images where there is a true connection are easier to get when there aren't tons of other people around. This spot offers sweeping views of the Petaluma hills, lots of wildlife, greenery and water. I love this location too because it's super easy walking (think flat and short!) for families.
A lot of what you see here just naturally comes from Kara and her girls. I didn't offer much more direction than "play with each other", "do what makes her happy" and "let's keep moving" if anyone seemed restless. Change of scenery is everything! I'm so grateful for Kara for letting me be so hands off because that's where the magic really shines. That is why the airplane play photo is one of my favorites from the session...I don't think I would have gotten this any other way than just standing back and capturing what naturally unfolds.
The night was amazing too! We had the most amazing, dramatic skies during our session which really added such emotion to the images. The evening was warm with soft breezes every once and awhile, so the girls felt comfortable moving and playing around. They had so much fun with their mama, and the puddles were a hit! I think they could have splashed in puddles all night if we let them. :)
Towards the end of our session, I took a few images with my drone, and it was really amazing to see them from a birds eye perspective. Drone images really add such variety to your family portraits, I strongly recommend including them in your session (just let me know if you are interested!).
I'm so excited to share these images with this amazing mom and I'm looking forward to our next photo session!
