A Dreamy Morning on the Bodega Bay Coast { Family Photographer, Sebastopol, CA }

When it comes to family photo sessions on the coast, you always have to be ready for the unexpected. The weather in Bodega Bay can be beautifully unpredictable, and a recent session with one of my favorite families was a perfect example.

We had originally planned an evening session, hoping for that classic sunset light. But as the day of our session approached, the forecast was calling for some intense wind—the kind that whips hair across faces and makes everyone squint. While I love the dramatic feel of a windy day, I also know that it can make for a challenging and less-than-joyful experience, especially with little ones.

So, we made a call to pivot. This amazing family was so flexible and trusted my recommendation to move our session to the following morning. And I’m so glad we did.

What we got the next day was pure magic. The wind was completely gone, replaced by a soft, misty blanket that filtered the morning sun into the most beautiful, creamy light. It was absolutely dreamy and incredibly flattering. The kids were full of energy, and the youngest, just a few months old, was much more content during our morning session than she likely would have been late in the evening.

Every time I get to photograph this family, I know I’m in for a session full of genuine joy, infectious energy, and so much love. Their connection to each other is so inspiring, and their authentic spirit truly shines through in every single photo. Seeing the way they interact and hold each other is a beautiful reminder of why I love what I do.

Some things are just worth the wait, and getting to capture these moments for them on such a gorgeous morning was one of them. I can’t wait to see them again!
