Morgan and Gary came to me for photos of their two gorgeous babies and I couldn’t wait to meet them! As a photographer, I know how much work goes into a session on my end, and I couldn’t help but consider the amount of work families put in as well.
The anticipation of a session can be daunting. What to wear? How should we pose? Will the kids behave? I’m here to remind you: don’t sweat it!
When it comes to styling your session, don’t drive yourself insane trying to find identical color matches. Choose outfits that are comfy and suit your individual style. Neutrals are typically easiest, but pops of color add personality and warmth.
Little Owen and baby Maya are great examples of this approach. Maya’s darling little romper goes perfectly with dad’s outfit, and Owen’s sweater features a shade of burgundy similar to Morgan’s sweater. Their wardrobe compliments the session without taking attention away from the people wearing them. That is, after all, the most important part. As far as the posing and kids, this time is yours!
When photographing families, especially those with younger children, I encourage parents to take advantage of the one-on-one time with their littles and Gary & Morgan were absolute pros at this! Parents know their children better than anyone else.
These two were fantastic at getting giggles and face-filling smiles out of their precious little ones. Children were not made to be still and perfectly posed, that’s not my style and it just isn’t realistic. Real life is full of laughter, energy, and fun, and your family photos should reflect your family the way you’ll remember them years from now.
Some of the most common advice given to parents of littles is to take them outside or put them in water when you’re having a particularly rough afternoon. Outdoor sessions are an automatic win in this sense! The regional parks in Sonoma County never disappoint when it comes to providing a scenic backdrop. I loved that the hills you see in the distance added a layer of dimension to their shoot without taking away from this beautiful family. The golden light on this particular day was simply divine and really accentuated their autumnal color palette. More importantly, it illuminated the warmth already present from so much loving devotion with Morgan and Gary!
This entire session was just a dream shoot. I couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful afternoon or a sweeter family to photograph! Gary and Morgan, thank you again for choosing me to capture your beautiful children.
